BLACK HAWK WAR SOCIETY
*********************************
FOUNDED IN 2002
*********************************

2005 REENACTING SEASON IS HERE!

Well the next season is coming up very quickly. The reenactors who are part of the Black Hawk war Society have been offered many invitations to attend events throughout the midwest. Two of the most unusual are an invitation to Michigan for a memorial of a Veteran of the Black hawk War buried there, the other is an invite to the 170th anniversary of a family having a reunion on the property in Illinois! I think this is going to be an interesting year indeed. Check the schedule on the Black Hawk war Society Board for further information.

Moderators Wanted!!!!!
***********************
The Black Hawk war Society wants your participation! I would like to add a new Board Moderator. New blood is always good to bring fresh perspectives and talent. As a Board Moderator you will be given the ability to create, edit and control all of the board content and to add your special style!

Improving the board
By Gene Stevens BHWS Board ADMIN
**********************
Since starting the board, I've tried to create a board that everyone would like, as well as creating an environment where people would feel welcome to express their honest opinions without feeling belittled, or be severly critizied by other board members. It was out of this spirit that the board was born.

Initially the board had a rough start and I think it was viewed from the wrong perspective, as well as falling subject to some outside scrutiny. Though I have periodically been given compliments by other folks in the living history community and other visitors which have stopped by, which it seems that the folks who do stop by to say hello, or make an inquiry, only stay for a short while.

It's due to the last part, that I have actually comtemplated doing away with the board completely, and I suggested this to a couple of our members both on the reenacting side and the online side, and I've gotten the same response from both, telling me that I should not shut the board down, because it does serve a purpose.

That purpose is to lend other perspectives, to give people a chance to get to know one another and to promote local history. The promotion of local history is of course the most important aspect of what we do. For instance, I've spent the last few weeks researching Fort Dearborn and I came to the conclusion that this small part of Chicago history was extremely important to the development of the state, and has been fairly overlooked by local history. So again this is a good reason to keep the board online!

It is with these ideas in mind, that I need your help! I'm am looking to add a Board Moderator who has a love of local history and a little extra time. The new Board Moderator will be given the ability to alter and add whatever the would like (concerning Illinois and hitory of the old northwest). If you are interested, drop me a line via email and we'll talk about it!

Celebrating Fort Dearborn
***************************
Fort Dearborn (Chicago) played a very important role in the birth of Chicago and laid the ground work for early settlement in the Chicago area. It also played a sad role as the occupants of the first Fort Deaborn were massacred by local indian tribes as part of the war of 1812, an incident which is nearly forgotten by local historians. I would like to propse a new local living history event in our area, under the theme of "Celebrating Fort Dearborn" I'd like to solicit the membership for ideas and support!
